Over the last several years I've spent a great deal of time trying to create works that grab folks interested in comics, video games and animation...to varying degrees but, that was the goal.
I spend a great deal of time selecting what I SHOULD display here on DA and just online as a whole and that usually ends up being original stuff that has the FEEL of other things that may or may not be popular "Right Now".
The point being to give viewers MY IDEAS.
It avoids being like the MAJORITY of artists on line.
I don't do a ton of FAN ARTS and the like because there's so much of that online.
Let's push some more TRULY ORIGINAL content.
There's gotta to be an audience for that...right?
I hear and read the "They should make...." and the "What if they made a guy/girl like ..." all over comment sections on just about anything comic related.
Sometimes I wonder why I constantly think more highly of my audience than they think of themselves. I dunno.
Maybe it's wishful thinking.
I can't really call it.
The thing that I see that bothers me the most, is that it seems like these days original seems to always entail BITING off a more popular something.
I can't even count the amount of "Original" comics that straight up bite off DBZ or One Piece or Trigun or original Super hero comics that bite off Spiderman whole sale with the whole "young irresponsible dude is self centered and dorky, gets powers and becomes less self centered and learns responsibility while juggling high school" shtick'.
Yet, folks dig it. Even in some cases they help fund it.
Much of the work is poorly drawn in attempts to imitate the original's look and feel but the "artist" or "technician" doesn't have the skill yet, to pull it off 100%.
It gets even more depressing when well known, successful artists and in some cases, content creators that make serious money from their youtube channels, books, t-shirts and other merch' ask for help making their next rip off, the "fans" just go along with it and pay up.
This even applies to the wonderful people that steal our works from DA or our portfolio sites and remove our signatures and replace it with their own and sell them at Anime and Comic cons.
And in the end, even many that know the work is stolen, still buy the stuff.
Shit like that seriously bothers me.
I confronted a guy doing that shit at a con in Chicago a few years back and at Mid Ohio also.
Maybe this is just fatigue talking or maybe it's a result of an artist's block. I don't know but, I'm a bit tired.
No...I'm really tired.
The same shit over and over gets the attention and the brave original shit gets none.
Fans ask for originality and innovation and when it comes they ignore it.
This year has been a slow year for me art wise, but very busy in all other areas.
Is this how it goes?
Am I seeing shit that's not there?
Anyway...that's it for now.
Time to continue the grind.

WHAT'S UP MY NINJAS?!!!

So I've been varying degrees of busy for the last couple years.
From co-writing and illustrating War of the Gods to raising my 2 sons to
hitting 500+ videos on my Youtube channel.
As well as maintaining my full time daytime work.
Then there's collecting.
I am a huge collector.
I collect action figures from the past and present and I dream of the day when figures of my own characters will be a thing.
Right now I just have to settle for the custom G.I. JOE figures I make of original characters.
I plan on collecting the diostories here in a folder that will be named

FENRIS COMPANY.

This is something that I have been dreaming of for a huge portion of my life and with how terrible the live action
G.I. JOE offerings have been, it's my opportunity to use my artistic prowess to create a bright spot in a sea of "fanboy
wanking".

Here's a little back story on this project.

Fenris company was inspired by my love for 80s-90s wild action films, Sci-fi , G.I. Joe and CONTRA.
Yes...THAT Contra. Namely the Alien Wars or Contra 3 and Contra: Hard CORPS on the genesis.
I played the HELL outta those games, especially Hard Corps.
The insane action and crazy stunts were the stuff of legend.
I mean, 2 soldiers with variable fire, assault rifles VS a 5 story Alien Mecha?
It's so beautifully insane I shed a man-tear writing that sentence.
The level of awesome was solely a thing found in that game so when my younger brother and I played with any of our action figures back in the day,
the action was turned up til the dial broke off and we were loving every moment.
The only issue was, we wanted to create our OWN characters and we needed figures that had a variety of vehicles to use in these insane
scenarios. Unfortunately, we were no where near rich. Mom and Dad treated us to a toy hear and there, but we never had nearly a complete collection of anything.
We had a few O-ring JOES though. So they were the designated "Action Heroes" of our "Toy-Verse".
Until they broke. LOL!.
Fast forward 15-20 years.
I am dating the awesome and beautiful lady that would soon become my wife and her son was gifted a huge array of 80s and 90s JOES by a friend of his dad's shortly before I entered the picture.
The kid loved the JOES but didn't quite "GET" what they were about. His dad never really showed him, or played with him using the figures to give him an idea. So I started to do so.
Then Rise of Cobra came out. The film was wack overall but the designs in the film made for some awesome toys.
And thus, my love for G.I. JOE was reignited.
A few years later I started doing Youtube reviews and G.I. JOE: Retaliation was on its way into theaters for better or for worse.
I was just happy because of the new figures, some of which looked awesome.
One of those figures stood soooo far out from the rest that it was crazy.
This was the JOE TROOPER. I did a HUGE review on them and the intro was a "Short film" showcasing their awesomeness.
I called the little flick "The Hard Corps".

I had sooo much fun with these guys. The sculpt, the accessories...it was all amazing. So much so that I created a sub-team around them with myself as the team leader.
This lead to me creating a HUGE "Joe-Verse" in which my team, now named "Fenris Company" would take on threats to the planet. From Alien invasion to Robotic uprising to defending this plain of existance from the denizens of Hell itself...Fenris Company will achieve "Victory by means of total anihilation!"™
Yes. They have a tag line as well as file cards and vehicles etc.
I went all in!
The team has undergone some minor tweaks and witch certain members, huge upgrades via the Marauders GR Task force figures/accessory sets.
Now they look like truly original creations, closer to what I saw in my mind during their early days.
As a result of all this...I decided to take that level of detail and attention and revamp my JOE-VERSE all together.
I then came up with a series called

G.I. JOE 2.0.

In this series I re-envision the whole concept of the JOES in their fight to protect the world from terrorist threats especially those of COBRA.
In this revamped MODERN take, the team was created during the Cold War.
Their are 2 arms to the Joe team...A Public team called the Joe "Colors" and the
Black Ops division codename: "ShadowHamer".
I have been developing concepts for my collections as if this were a Movie or TV series with ideas of
legacy codenames. Something only been done in a few instances in the comics.
My Joe team is on their 3rd Duke. The first was retired. The second was KIA.
"Alpha Dogs" are like a group of team Captains. This is made up of Stalker(OG), Duke(no. 3), Flint(OG), Scarlett(OG),Stone(OG) and Beachhead(OG).
They are tasked with leading Ops at any given time, anywhere.
As for Shadowhammer, this is where all the Rise of Cobra Joe gear went.
They were set up as an extremely covert team in the film(with sneaking suits and optical cammo)so it was a logical
choice to make them as such.
Anywhoo, you can see the Prologue for the series
here [link]

So yeah. I just had to share all that stuff.
It's my "Happy Place" when illustration and the day job start to weigh too heavily on me.

The world as we know it is a series of generic formulas being repeated continuously to attack your senses and force you into submitting to the mediocre.
Due to a chemical imbalance in our brains, we see through these formulaic assaults. We can see the world for what it is. Simply put, we cannot submit.
Because of this we've been deemed insane.
This insanity is a gift that we plan to use for all mankind. We will use our "special brand of insanity" to show you things in a way you might have never thought of or didn't even know possible. Who knows, we may even free a few minds in the process.
So join us. See what our minds have to offer and remember, "We don't suffer from insanity, we enjoy it."
